Sonic the Hedgehog 2 Beats Morbius to the Box Office's No. 1 Spot.
This is a lot more money than the Marvel movie Morbius made in its second weekend, which was only $10.2 million.
So Sonic the Hedgehog is once again top dog when it comes to movie ticket sales. A lot of people went to see Sonic the Hedgehog 2 when it came out. The sequel has made $71 million so far at the box office in America. This makes the speedster's sequel the top movie at the box office by far. It puts it above the second movie, Morbius, by about $60 million, making it the top movie at the box office by far. This is the strong start that Paramount had hoped Sonic 2 would have. It shows that they can move forward with more sequels and a Knuckles spinoff series.
It was still a while after the pandemic, but Sonic fans were still coming out in droves to see the new movie. The original movie, which came out in early 2020 just before the pandemic, made $58 million in its first weekend. The President's Day holiday bumped it up to $70 million. If you're a fan of video games, you'll like Sonic the Hedgehog 2. If you haven't tried any of the games, you'll like Sonic the Hedgehog 2.
"This movie did a great job for the fans, but it didn't leave out everyone else." The head of Paramount's domestic distribution said that was a good trick.
As of this weekend, Morbius has made $10.2 million in the US and Canada, which is about 74% less than when it opened last week. Even though that movie had a bad review its second weekend in theatres, that didn't help it keep going. 17 percent on Rotten Tomatoes makes it one of the worst Marvel movies ever made.
